Retro Maxi Skirt

I hope everyone had a great weekend. On Friday, I stopped in Canal Winchester, a city close to me. I came across this fabulous store called Cornersmiths. If you are ever near Columbus,Ohio, you should stop by. They have a great variety of things, like these earrings I bought. They are vintage stones put into a new setting. Everything in this store was so unique and cute. This was one room in the store that displayed a vintage metal background, which they used to  displayed their products.

These were the earrings I purchased. I loved how they were packaged with ribbon and polka dot cardboard!

So, my kids and I had a great time discovering this store. (Actually, I had to bribe them that I would  go in the cupcake store next door, after we were done). While I was there, my daughter took a picture of my awesome retro abstract maxi skirt that I purchased at the thrift store for $5.00 (oh yeah)! This skirt fit me perfectly and I think I scared the poor guy right next to me when I saw it because he looked at me when I yelled "yes!" This skirt has such a great print. Besides the black and white, it also incorporates hot pink and red. I had been looking for a unique maxi skirt, and was excited to find this one. I have picked two other maxi skirts I like. If you have an extra $1,530, I love the first maxi skirt's print that is from Harrods. It is definitely an original. I also like the Banana Republic skirt. It has a great print, and is reasonably priced at $98.00. Also, at the thrift store, I discovered another great find that day.  It was a neon checked J.Crew shirt. It was definitely a successful day at thrift store!
Also, I hoped everyone had a fabulous Mother's Day. I spent it with my family at my brother's college graduation. To finish the day we met up with my kids and ate dinner at one of my favorite restaurants -Mongolian BBQ Grill. It was a great day!

Metallic and Mother's Day

Woo hoo! It's Friday!  Since I have started this blog, I pay a lot more attention to cool landmarks and backgrounds. I was picking my dog up from the groomer and went by this church. The color of the doors and the architecture captured my attention. On this day I was wearing this metallic bronze H&M dress.  My favorite details of the dress are the drawstring waist and large pockets. I accented this dress with a cream shirt and gold accessories.  When I got my Instyle magazine and Charlize Theron  was on the front with a copper dress, I was excited that I was on trend even though my dress was past season. Well, this weekend is Mother's Day and I have plans to go see my younger brother, Kevin, graduate from college. I can't believe it! I am so proud of the man he has become.

Then, to my two besties Cappy and Molly who give great advice and make the journey of motherhood so much fun. Also, to my great readers, have a wonderful Mother's Day!

DIY: Fabric Covered Chandelier Shades

Well, it's DIY Wednesday. This DIY  is inspired from the chandelier shades I purchased at a garage sale this past Saturday. They had been weighing heavily on my mind to have something done to them quickly. I purchased all 6  shades for $3.00, and I had been itching to change my current shades. Chandelier shades can cost anywhere from $13 to $35 a piece. My home interior decor is similar to my style, I love to change it often and take risks by incorporating many fabrics with different but coordinating prints.
This is one of the 6 shades and can be made in a few steps and will make your chandelier  unique!
For this DIY you will need 6 chandelier shades. I often see these at thrift stores and I think they are reasonably priced at Lowe's.  Remember , you don't need to have the same print, just shape because they are being recovered. Also needed is 1/2 yard material, 2 in. by 9ft black ruffle trim, Elmer's Craft Bond spray adhesive, long paper, hot glue gun and sticks, scissors, pencil and crafting music!
Step 1: Take all of the old material and trim off the lamp shade.
Step 2: You will need to make a paper pattern. First, make a dot on the shade and the paper will your pencil.

Step 3: Roll the shade and every 2 inches trace the shade at the top and the bottom. You will stop when the dot comes back around fully.

Step 4: This is what your pattern should look like when finished, then cut it out.

Step 5: Place the paper pattern on the opposite side of the fabric and trace the pattern with a pencil.

Step 6: Cut the material out, it should look the this.
Step 7: Apply the spray adhesive to the shade  and start at the seam of the shade to apply your material.

Step 8:  Continue to smooth the material until your come to the end and them fold over. Glue the folded over material with hot glue.

STEP 9: Apply the  trim to the bottom and top of the shade using hot glue. Make sure to start at the seam of the shade. This trim will help hide any imperfections and adds a great detail to your shade.

Step 10: I applied the trim by applying hot glue every couple inches and then applying the trim. This makes sure your trim is  applied evenly!  Repeat these 10 steps for 5 more shades and voila you are finished.

Finished Product! I love how it turned out.
My first set of shades I had stenciled numbers and symbols. I loved how they looked and was actually going to use them as a DIY inspiration. The idea was given to me by my cool mother-in-law.

I would love to hear what you think and hope you are having a great Wednesday!

A Hint of Red

Ah, a second to finally sit down!I hope everyone had a great weekend. It went by so fast. I did find some time to make it to a few garage sales. I found a great sweater for a $1.00 ,that I am sure will be worn in future posts. Also, a great piece of pottery and chandelier lamp shades, which may be used for a future DIY. I also had a chance to catch some rays at my kids soccer games and have a date night. The weather was so beautiful that we ate outside. So, it was a successful weekend! I have noticed lately I have been wearing more black with red. I woke up on this morning not sure what to wear. So, this is one of my go to outfits- comfortable but put together. You could make an outfit like this dresser for night by adding heels and different jewelry.

Shorts for Spring

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I am ready for the weekend. This weekend I plan on working on getting a tan or just not being "clear" and maybe go to a garage sale or two.  I know on Monday I said, "I am not a fan of shorts", but I have bought a few pairs and I have decided to step out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I think that is what style is about !These shorts in this post caught my attention with their dotted print and pockets. Down at the bottom I have selected a few pairs of shorts that I fancy!

DIY: Red Sunburst Earrings

On Monday's post I wore these earrings. These red sunburst earrings can be made in a few simple steps. They are made from buttons. That's the cool thing, you could use some similar buttons or choose some in a different color.

This DIY was an inspiration from these earrings from Aurelie Bidermann.

This is the wire from Home Depot that I used for my Peter Pan collar necklace. I liked it because it is bendable, but very sturdy. This wire was perfect for these earrings.  I told you I will be making a few projects from this wire- I have to get my $7.00 worth.

I took this picture so you know exactly what kind of wire to buy.

Step 1: Cut the wire into 14 pieces make them in sizes ranging from 2 1/2 inches to 1 inch. You can cut more pieces if you choose to make your earrings fuller.

Step 2: Spray the pieces with gold spray paint. You will need to flip on other side and spray, until the wire is completely covered.

Step 3: Besides the wire, you will need Goop craft glue,  buttons, and 10mm flat post/clutch, and wire cutters. My buttons have accents of red, but you could use any button that has a metal backing.

Step 4: Using the wire cutters cut the back of the button, so that the back is flat. After the Goop glue is applied, place the metal wire in the desired location. I showed how I placed mine above.

Step 5: I cut the wire according to the design I preferred. Then, using the glue apply the post to the back of the button and let dry.

Finished product. I love the pop of red!

Seeing Spots

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! We had great weather on Sunday and I finally got some needed yard work done. I am not usually a huge fan of shorts, in the summer I tend to wear more dresses. But, I loved the look of these and they are so comfortable. These shorts are silk and could be worn day or night. This shirt is another thrift store purchase. The earrings are made by moi and they will be featured in a DIY on Wednesday if you are interested!
