The First Week of Thrifting

I will be devoting the next two weeks on my blog to thrift store finds. I have friends that do not enjoy thrift store shopping for many different reasons. I love the challenge of finding a bargain or a unique item that no one else may own.  There are levels of thrifting. You have consignment shops, thift stores, Goodwill and Salvation Army,  and vintage shops. In Columbus, we have a chain of consignment shops called Clothes Mentor and Plato's Closet. Whenever I clean out my closet, I take my items to these stores. They accept everything from accessories to clothes to shoes.  These stores are quick to go through your items and I think they give you a fair price.  I then donate the items they don't accept to the Goodwill.  The Steve Madden shoes in the picture below are from Plato's closet. The coat below is also from the Ohio Thrift Store for a great price of $25.00. This particular store donates all proceeds to the fight against cancer.  A fantastic purchase, for an even better cause.  This has been one of my favorite finds, and even after dry cleaning it was less than $40.00. What are some thrift stores you go to?

  2. You look like a celebrity! What a great find. The slacks and the shoes really look great with the coat.

I like to shop at our local Goodwill. I think they separate the best stuff for this particular shop because I find some great things -and it's rather small.

I also take my clothes to consignment - a place I also like to shop. I am considering imposing a spending freeze for February. I think I've been bringing too many thrift shop finds that aren't that great and end up being re-donated. Taking a break from all shopping will help me concentrate on what I already have. I just hope I don't miss out on anything really fantastic at the thrift shop!

    1. I love the Goodwill store because they have a set price, like all sweaters are $2.99. I find that it is sometimes hard to be selective on thrift stores items because they are such a good deal. Thanks for the great comment.

  3. You look so glamorous! What great finds.

I worked at Platos for 2 years in highschool and I think half my paycheck always went to the clothes being brought in haha. I typically shop at Goodwill and local thrift shops. Savers is also another great place to go.

  8. I also love the thrill of finding great things for a good price. I usually go to consignment shops. I have had good luck at One More Time in Grandview. I take my clothes there and they offer you either cash or double the cash on store credit. They even have a small designer section w Lilly Pulitzer, Tory Burch and higher end jeans.
