Layering

I hope everyone had a great holiday. After my long drive home from my vacation, I decided to read my January Edition of Lucky Magazine. They were giving some suggestions on layering. I decided to give it a whirl with my outfit today. My first layer is a h&m sleeveless pink shirt(very long) under my denim dress that I have worn below. This shirt added a pop of color to this outfit. Adding color to an outfit is a trend that will not be going away for a while.

The last layer is a h&m cream sweater over my denim dress. Instead of tights, I used gray thick leggings with tall socks and my favorite Sorel snow boots.

My suggestion with layering is take a regular outfit that you would normally layer together, then add one extra piece. I feel like layering this season is adding that extra piece out of your comfort zone. To this outfit I added the long pink shirt. The great thing about this is the shirt was sleeveless, so I didn't feel like I had a million clothes on.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and I am looking forward to a great 2013. I am back from vacation, so my blog will be back in full force.

" No Women No Cry"...

Happy Holidays. I first entitled this blog because my bohemian look makes me think of Bob Marley's song "No Women No Cry", but if you have wondered where I have been- sick!!!! I think as a mom sometimes we worry about making sure everyone else is taken care of that we neglect ourselves. Usually, I would talk about it with in a style aspect, but for me it was a health one. I usually always get a flu shot, but this year I made sure the kids got one and did not take the time to get myself, so what did I get now but the flu(and that is why I should be crying). Now that I am on the mend, I am getting the shot because I need to protect myself against the other 3 types of flu I can still get. One of my favorite bloggers Sheree from It's Not That Deep, recently did a post on a high and low dress. I was found this little number after reading her post at Forever 21 for $15.80. For that price, that is why it's sold out online, but I bet you can find it in the store .This dress is a great piece that can be used throughout the year. For the cold months, I paired it with a pair of tights, boots, knitted scarf, and my beanie. If you asked anyone that knows me what type of hat I would wear, they would tell you a baseball hat. I love to wear one all the time in the summer, but recently in the cold months I have been wearing a beanie. I think it would be great with short or long hair.

Plaid can be Rad

Usually when I wear plaid, I felt like it never had that "modern" feel. But plaid, can be rad paired with a leather bottom. Plaid and leather are be trends for fall 2012 as I have posted before, so why not put them together.

One thing that makes this outfit complete is having a chambray shirt in your closet. I have a couple. I scored this Zara chambray shirt at a consignment shop in NYC. I am drawn to this one more often than the others in my closet, because it is a lighter material- almost a bleached look. I feel like this shirt is a must and I don't care what your style type this can go with everything. I found a few I loved, in case your looking to add one to your wardrobe.

On my mind.......

Like many of you, I was deeply saddened this past Friday when I was informed of the shooting that took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  I must say my heart truly goes out to all of the victims. As a parent, I cannot imagine what those parents of lost children are going through, along with the others who witnessed this horrific event. Even amongst the sadness I feel, I cannot help to think of the bravery of those teachers involved who lost their lives trying to protect their school children. There is little more I can convey  in regards to this incident, but I plan to speak of the victims only.  They are the only ones that should be publicized and remembered, and will be thought of often.  This post may seem insignificant during such a time of sadness, but my hope is that every decent person can reflect and appreciate children, teachers and loved ones in their lives.

Sequin Blazer

Happy Wednesday, this great sequin blazer was another tailoring project that my talented mom helped me with. This blazer was purchased for $5.00 at the thrift store. The alteration that my mom completed was to pull back the front of the blazer and sew it down to give it a tuxedo look. It is vintage and I thought this would give it a more up-to date look. I would call my mom a risk taker when it comes to creativity. She is always willing to try a project. She always says before she starts, "are your sure it looks nice the way it is." I say yes, this item it is not me and or what I have in mind when I bought it. So, then the project begins, but that is the great thing about thrift store finds, you don't feel to bad when they don't work out because you haven't invested too much money.

I think a sequin blazer is a great option for a holiday party. One of my favorite things to wear are skinny jeans. A way for me to dress them up for a party is pair them up with a sequin blazer.
